Subcutaneous sebaceous cysts and cysts can occur in people of all ages and genders, and can occur in various parts of the body. Sometimes they are very noticeable, especially if they occur at the skin level, such as the eyelids, face, neck, arms, legs, chest, etc. If they are not very noticeable, they can be felt when touched. Their size ranges from a few millimeters to several centimeters.

Many times, cysts occur in internal organs, such as the liver, kidneys, uterus, and ovaries, which cannot be seen, but are discovered during a physical examination or when the cyst grows and interferes with the functioning of the internal organs, causing pain.

There are several reasons why outer skin cells end up in the wrong place, such as:

Cysts of this type are rarely dangerous, but they can be abnormal or become cancerous. Patients should see a doctor for a thorough examination if they notice the following symptoms:

  • Other signs of infection such as pain, redness, and pus are found.
  • The cysts grew back rapidly after surgery.
  • The cyst is larger than 5 centimeters.

Subcutaneous sebaceous cysts can disappear on their own without causing any health problems. However, they can be surgically removed for cosmetic reasons. There are different surgical methods as follows:

  • Partial cyst removal surgery This method leaves the least scarring, but carries a risk of cysts forming again.
  • Complete cyst removal surgery will remove the entire cyst, but may leave scars.
  • Laser cyst surgery uses a laser to drain the fluid in the cyst sac.

After the surgery is complete, the doctor will prescribe anti-inflammatory drugs to prevent infection and creams to help reduce scarring.
